BPC will build the new cash centre for the National Bank in Zellik. This project will be carried out in temporary association with CIT Blaton.
The National Bank of Belgium has decided to build a new, highly secure building for the management, processing and storage of banknotes as well as for the storage of coins.
Located in Zellik, the 3.7 ha building site was previously used as a warehouse.
The built-up area comprises three buildings:
- A two-storey administrative building (“support core”)
- A single-storey, highly secure industrial building (“security core”), located in the centre of the site.
- A truck sweeping building
For security reasons, the “secure core” has a minimum of openings. The administration building, on the other hand, is largely glazed.
This new state-of-the-art infrastructure will largely automate the logistical process of putting euro banknotes into circulation. At present, the National Bank’s cash centre is still located in its main building in the centre of the capital. This will change in a few years’ time with the new infrastructure that we are going to build in a business park in Zellik (Asse), on the outskirts of Brussels.
